Language Policy

A recommended level of english should be agreed with the receiving organization to ensure a proper integration of the student in the mobility program. The student will commit to reach this level of language competence by the start of the study period.

The level of English of the student will be assessed after his/her selection. In case the student would not already have this level when signing the Learning Agreement, he/she commits to reach it with the support to be provided by the sending institution (ISPAB provides a 30 hours English tutorial classes to all selected students and staff for mobility programmes).

Incoming

Each semester, there is at least one beginner’s Portuguese language course for incoming students. The portuguese language course starts in: October (for the autumn semester) and February (for the spring semester). If incoming students choose to participate in this course, they will also receive a portuguese language manual, from the International Office, as soon as they arrive at ISPAB.

All Erasmus students at ISPAB, may attend both portuguese language courses. The Portuguese language courses and the Portuguese language manual are free of charge for all Erasmus students.

Outgoing

The Erasmus Intensive Language Courses (EILC) are carried out in countries whose language is rarely used and taught in the EU.

These courses are an opportunity for students to undertake Erasmus mobility in these countries, because they can take advantage of pre-linguistic preparation mobility, an intensive period 2-6 weeks. Students may receive an additional scholarship to attend the EILC, by the institution, if there is funding available.

The information on approved courses should be consulted on the website of the European Commission http://ec.europa.eu/education/erasmus/eilc1011_en.htm
